Sara Salman is a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor supervised by Dr. Thomas Lucking. Sara has experience working in a community mental health setting, seeing clients from a broad range of backgrounds with various concerns such as relationship and family issues, complex trauma, attachment loss, social and other forms of anxiety, depression, and many more. Sara works from a Family Systems and Attachment approach, understanding that an individual is always in relation with others and impacted by those relationships. Sara works with her clients to understand their needs and interests, allowing creativity and collaboration to lead the session.
Sara has spent many years working with youth from Muslim and minority communities, understanding the struggles that many youth face on daily basis such as identity issues, cultural barriers and expectations, questioning spiritual and religious beliefs. Sara worked with these youth to help create safe spaces for them to be able to relate and communicate with others facing similar struggles; allowing them to feel confident and empowered in their communities.
Sara was raised in a family that instilled values of engagement, community, and activism. With that Sara sees families as the nucleus of any society and thus strives to help families overcome conflicts that have them feeling stuck and disconnected. Through her work in interfaith settings and with families from diverse backgrounds, Sara has also developed a unique capability of understanding the needs of multi-cultural families and importance of intersectionality.
